Move Freely • Live Fully

I love this question because it's rarely just about numbers. It's really about: How can I get the most out of Pilates? How can I approach this in a way that actually helps me?
For most people, twice a week is the sweet spot.
It's enough repetition to build strength, improve mobility, and create changes that carry over into daily life without taking over your schedule.
That said, the right answer depends on what movement already looks like in your life.
If you're already exercising regularly, your answer might be different than someone who's just getting started. If you're easing back into movement after time away, the best place to begin may be simpler than you think.
Let's break it down.
If you're just getting started, aim for two movement sessions each week.
That could look like:
Two guided Pilates sessions
One guided session plus a simple personal practice between sessions
Consistency matters more than perfection.
Once a week can absolutely help you get started. You may notice you feel better after each session. But twice a week tends to be where people begin noticing changes outside the session too.
They sit through meetings more comfortably. They move with less hesitation. Their body feels more predictable.
If twice a week feels overwhelming, start with one guided session and a few short practices on your own throughout the week. Your personal practice doesn't need to be long. Even five or ten minutes can help reinforce what you're learning and keep you connected to how your body is responding.
Then build from there as consistency becomes easier.
If you're already strength training, running, cycling, or doing other demanding workouts several days a week, make sure you're building in at least one true rest day each week.
More isn't always better.
If adding Pilates twice a week means you never get a chance to recover, once a week may be the better choice right now. Pilates can provide mobility, stability, and thoughtful cross-training without tipping you into doing too much overall.
That said, if you're getting adequate recovery and have the time and energy for it, twice-weekly Pilates sessions will usually lead to faster progress. More frequent practice gives your body more opportunities to build strength, improve coordination, and reinforce new movement patterns.
The goal isn't to squeeze in as much exercise as possible.
It's to find a rhythm that supports your body and the life you're trying to live
People often assume feeling better is a long way off. In my experience, that's not usually the case.
Many people notice some changes within the first few sessions. They move more easily. They feel less tension. They have a clearer understanding of what's happening in their body.
The bigger shifts tend to come with consistency.
One client put it this way:
That's often the goal. Not a perfect body. A body that feels more capable, more responsive, and less disruptive to your daily life.
Usually, yes.
The more frequently you practice, the more opportunities your body has to learn and adapt.
Someone practicing twice a week will often notice changes sooner than someone practicing once a week.
That doesn't mean once a week isn't worthwhile.
It just means progress may happen more gradually.
The best schedule is the one you can maintain consistently.
Here's a simple starting point:
The goal isn't to do Pilates as often as possible. The goal is to build a body that supports your life.
One that lets you travel, work, exercise, and spend time with the people you love without your body constantly asking for attention.
If you're still wondering how often you should do Pilates, the answer isn't about finding the perfect number. It's about finding a rhythm you can maintain consistently, one that helps you move and feel better over time.
